This mining hold was established well over 50 turns ago due to the island's rich gemstone resources. The mountains of this small island were made from a volcano that moved over time along with Pern's tectonic plates. The Weyr itself is located in one such prior location.
You can be from this hold, even born here if you would like, or you can decide to be part of the current population here. While there are some crafters here, most have since moved on to the almost complete main Hold to set up shop so to speak. This means most of those whom remain are of the minercraft.
The hold itself is set into the mountains with a few paths here and there leading from cave to cave. There are some buildings outside the caves but all are made of stone.
