Along the same line as the "Dos" page these are some things we DON'T want to see:
- Characters who are just depressing to play/watch. Yes people have crappy lives even in Pern, but we'd rather you start with a normal character (possibly with a few past hang ups that weigh on them heavily) and let things go from there. These characters get very old very quick on rp sites.
- Do not godmod. Your character may be extraordinary in some ways, but never in everything. This also means that your character doesn't have power over other characters unless they allow it. I don't really care if your character is a "Lessa" and extremely influential, someone should always be allowed to react with their own characters as they see fit.
- This leads into not taking control over other people's characters. A minor offense will get you spoken to, a major one will get you kicked out unless you make steps on your own to fix/make amends for it before I deal with the situation. I have a past with my own characters being controlled and will NOT tolerate it at all, no exceptions.
- Don't be closed to all options. One of the most annoying character types is the one who's player wants people to pay attention to his/her character's predicament and help out with it, but then doesn't allow anyone who does join the rp to have any affect on the situation at all. If all you want is an IC observer to your character's misery then use an NPC, but don't make things stressful for other players when they try to help you.
- Ask/beg for a dragon/specific colors at hatching, if you do you won't get one at all plain and simple.
- Go away and not post for weeks without letting people know. A few days is fine, but more and you should let those you are playing with know if you can.
- Don't make characters with off the wall physical traits. There is no pink, purple, green, white (other than age related), blue, ect. hair. No two different colored eyes, or oddly colored eyes (anything but green, blue, grey, brown, hazel, amber, ect). Yes you COULD have pink/red eyes if you were albino or something, but considering that the people brought to Pern were selected as the best of the best, I find albino a hard trait to come across in current Pern (plus it hasn't been mentioned at all. Brown hair/eyes are the most common traits on Pern, and any rarer traits should be saved for when your site rank increases.
- Don't make a Candidate who has some physical/mental disability. Even if they had the right stuff to be a dragonrider, a searchrider wouldn't bring them back for Hatching because a rider should be whole as fighting thread is a tricky business.
- Don't give characters tattoos or strange piercings (ears only, and almost never on boys). The only tattoos on Pern are the ones given to the Holdless who are forced into this status. Brands could be possible, but would have to be very rare as there is still a risk of infection.
- Don't make characters who are skilled in combat with no reason. A Dragonrider, Lord Holder/his family, or a guard may learn the disciplined skills but few others can. A small exception is the Southern Continent as those who venture into the Jungles for any reason should at least have some (untrained) skills with a spear or knife in order to protect themselves from the wildlife there.
